In memoriam

A review of those who are not with us any more:

Sasha, black halfbred siamese

b. ?/?-1972 - d. 4/4-1989

Sasha was my first cat. I had begged for a cat from I was 2 years old, but referring to the family dog, my parents resisted for 15 long years.

A dark evening in fall, Sasha arrived with a death sentence over her little black head: Her former owner was moving abroad, and if I didn't adopt her, Sasha would have to be put to sleep.

My parents couldn't resist this one, and that was the beginning of a beautiful friendship, that lasted for 18 years. Sasha followed me from my parents' home, from flat to flat during my education years and in and out of relationships, and finally she followed me into the house, where I still live.

She was the fixed point in my young life, where everything else kept changing. Finally, her inner organs were worn out, and she died full of days.

Misha was my first siamese, and her breeder, Alice Jćger, persuaded me quickly, that siameses come in pairs, so Misha brought her halfsister, Natasha, with her.

Misha had an exceptionally loving and confident temper. She was always nearby, preferably on the lap or under the blanket.

Misha was neither for breeding nor for shows. The latter I realized, when she achieved the little flattering judgement  "very good 4". For me she was beutiful anyway. She was going to be mated, but something was wrong with her fertility, and she only went on heat once in her lifetime.

Unfortunately she was only 11 years old. She had cancer in her rectum, and had to be put to sleep.

Natasha Al Kattá, SIA b (chocolatepoint) - Misha's halfsister

b. 13/4-1989 - d.21/11-2004

Natasha was my first breeding queen. She had only one litter, from which I kept Archie as a show neuter. Her second litter was a disaster: 4 kittens died inside her, and only a miracle and a competent vetenarian saved her life.

Though spayed, she was the true queen of the group, and she reigned the cats and myself with her natural charming authority.

Her most touching feature was a well developed  urge to protect the weak. She integrated newcoming kittens by adopting them, and if a cat fell ill, she stayed at its side and kept it warm with her own body. When Natasha was lying on top of a cat, I knew, it was time to see the vet.

I was allowed to keep Natasha for 15 years - and still I find her life too short. She had breastcancer and was operated, but shortly after she had to be put to sleep.

For many years, Archie was my show neuter, and he and I travelled all over Europa together. He submitted nicely to it and took most of his certificates without problems. He was nominated several times, was BIV six times and on one occasion he was BIS and the following day BOX. Eventually he was tired of showing, and when he had become an EP, he was granted the privilege to stay at home.

Archie was a delicate nature, but loving and confident. He couldn't stand quarrels in the group, and he himself was mild and peaceable. He was a real diner and developed a table-begger technique so charming, that nobody could resist him.

Also Archie reached the age of almost 15 years, and it was hard to say good-bye to him. Suddenly he had an autoimmune haemolytic anaemia and suffered terribly. He might have survived it, but his heart was damaged and enlarged, so I let him have peace.

Bimmer Braun Brimiso (with Alma og Asta), SIA n (sealpoint)

b. 17/11-1992 - d.4/6-1996

Bimmer is the only cat, I have taken in of pity.  She was extremely shy, and I hoped, that the right treatment would make her more confident.

Only when she was giving birth to her first litter, she accepted me and my assistance, but few days later she was back to her old timid self.

Her second litter wasn't meant to be. Some weeks pregnant, she had pyometra and was operated, but she didn't recover after surgery and died in the animal clinic.

I believe, that death was a relief to her, but I blamed myself for not being able to make her happy.

Being Bimmer's daughter, Alma was born here in my house, but she didn't carry my cattery name, because Bimmer was transferred to me after giving birth.

Alma was a sweet and affectionate kitten, but as an adult she gradually became more distant . She was shown almost all the way to GIC, but never had the last certificate from 3.country. She never had kittens, though she was mated several times by different toms.

Over the years Alma's character changed, and she became very timid. Eventually she stayed in the bottom of the wardrobe, and she only dared to come foreward, when we were all alone. I tried different treatments without success. Finally I had to realize, that she was tainted by heritage, and I had to make the heavy decision to let the vet release her from her suffering.

Asta Braun Brimiso, SIA n (sealpoint),

Bimmer's daughter, Alma's sister

b. 30/4-1994 - d. 26/2-2004

Asta was Alma's sister, and she moved in by Bimmer's breeder, Britt Hansen, as "mating-fee". She lived there for 4 years and gave birth to a kitten, but in february 1998 Britt died, and Asta came back home again - along with her grandmother Julle.

She seemed to recognize everything and quickly she settled back in. She was a funny little cat, and she was easy to get on with. But she didn't like showing. She once participated on a hobby-show, but was so upset, that she had diarrhoea on the judge's table. After that episode she was allowed to stay at home.

Though she had given birth once, she never succeed to become pregnant. Therefore there is no offspring from Bimmer.

Asta became weak kidneys, and she went downhill so quickly, that she couldn't be saved.

Originally, Julle wasn't my cat. She belonged to her breeder, Britt Hansen, who died in 1998. When I came to take Asta back home, Julle was on the list of cats, who had to be put to sleep, because nobody wanted a 10 years old cat. I couldn't bear that. I knew Julle as Britt's sweetest cat, and she was Asta's grandmother, so she came along into the transport box.

It was a short but warm friendship. Julle settled amazingly quickly into her new home, along with her granddaughter Asta, and my other cats soon realized, that there was nothing evil in Julle.

Julle had breastcancer shortly after I got her. She had surgery and stayed on impressively long, but one day it was over. I came to love Julle very much during that short period of time.

IC Quanna van de Marcken, SIA n (sealpoint)

b. 24/6-2000 - d. 9/9-2006

Quanna was my first imported cat. She came from Corry Rijksbaron in Holland. I wanted a purebred siamese queen with a better type than the ones I had had till then. I had both and into the bargain an unusually affectionate cat, who loved to sit on my shoulders and stick her nose into everything.

Quanna had a lovely big litter, from which I kept my two "blue-animals". After that, it seemed impossible to get her pregnant. On the other hand she was a brilliant babysitter for the litters of the other queens, and she even produced milk, when there were babies about the house.

I couldn't make myself delete the pages I made for Quanna, when she was still alive. They can be seen here.

Quanna had a tumor in her breast in autumn 2005, and I had hoped, that it wouldn't develope so quickly, but unfortunately things went suddenly fast, and there was no hope, that surgery would be any help for her, so Quanna was put to sleep.

Ute Krüger presented me Penny as a gift, when I needed a queen.

Penny was a healthy and robust cat, who had never been ill in her life, and it is incomprehensible, that she is not among us any more.

Penny was a lovely cat with a remarkably loving and trustful mind, and she had an irresistably charming habbit of stretching herself up against people in order to be lifted up.

Alas, Penny had only one litter, but she proved to be an unusually good mother, both giving birth and nursing the kittens. Penny's own page can be seen here.

She was going to be mated again, when she suddenly fell ill, and though her therapy seemed to be successful, Penny died of autoimmune haemolytic anaemia after less than 14 days.

Falstria's Clair Renaissance, SIA a, (blue point)

Quanna's daughter from the first litter

b. Nov 2nd-2001 - d. July 5th-2010

Clair Renaissance (and she really was called by her full name) was from the very beginning close to my heart. Quanna had 4 full nipples and 5 kittens to feed, and Clair Renaissance was the smallest - but she was a fighter and had an impressing vitality. She became my bottle-child.

Clair Renaissance gave birth to Fabian, but unfortunately she had to be spayed because of pyometra.

She was a very talking cat, and despite her littleness, she had the deepest siamese voice, I ever heard. Also, she had a wonderful ability to retrieve wine corks, which she carried like a cigar staight in her mouth, so her breath could be heard on both sides of it. She would walk all the way around my feet and deliver with her tail neatly folded around her front paws, waiting for the next toss.

Clair Renaissance was suddenly struck with blindness, propably due to a brain tumor. So we walked the heavy path.

I had hoped that Vilma would be the mother of a lot of 2nd generation Falstria-cats. She was mated 4 times by 3 different toms, but never had any kittens. When she had pyometra for the second time within few months, she was spayed.

Vilma was a loveable cat, who always sat on the lap, and she should have had a long and happy life as a neuter, but that was not to be.

She had three teeth taken out, but she didn't begin to eat. A different vet diagnosed her with Fatty Liver Disease, but alas too late. In spite of intensive treatment, Vilma slowly withered in front of me.

Falstria's Clemente,  SIA a (bluepoint)
Quanna's son, Clair Renaissance's brother

b: 2/11-2001 - d. 19/1-2011

I always knew, that my two "bluies" were unable to live without one another, and that they probably would die within a small interval of time. Nevertheless, it was a devastating blow for me, when Clemente withered and died, only 5 months after Clair Renaissance.

Clemente and I have had countless adventures together, both in his long carreer as show neuter and at home, where he played his part as "man about the house" with great pride. He was mild and good, and everytime a new kitten moved in, he was convinced, that he had become a father once again. I didn't have the heart to tell him, that he had only succeeded to sire one single kitten in his very young days.

Clemente had many funny skills: He drank water from the tap, he knew how to open drawers by magic and that sort of things - always followed by Clair Renaissance's admirering eyes, untill one day it was over. After a short period of illness, where all treatment seemed to be lost on Clemente, his kidneys failed, and he could not be saved.

- see you at the Rainbow Bridge!
